Short answer: Rock climbing cricket farmers.
Who are we? Short answer: Rock climbing cricket farmers.
Hello! Amanda here from Fifth Dimension Farm. Welcome to the blog. This is where you can find out more about our farm, our background, and of course, our crickets. If you have specific questions or comments or blog post ideas, I’d love to hear from you at amanda@fifthdimensionfarm.com.
Fifth Dimension Farm is situated in Landenberg, PA and is made up of Jim, Amanda, Bucky (horse), Willy & Harley (goats), Cherry/Star/Carrots/Cliff (bunnies), and tens of thousands of crickets. A little about each of us to follow.
Jim – His farm name is Crow, and he’s the reason this whole shindig exists. He has had about a million jobs in his life so far, and they each have had a part to play in our current adventure. In addition to cricket farming, he is trying to make the farm fully self-sufficient, forages mushrooms, recycles used cooking oil into diesel fuel, and he has an absolutely wonderful teenage daughter (farm name Otter) who plays with the bunnies/goats/horse, and is endlessly entertaining.
Amanda – My farm name is Salamander and I’m the reason we’re making dog treats. I have only had about half of a million jobs in my life so far, but most of them have revolved around education, retail, or both, and don’t really have anything to do with farm stuff. However, I do like to make things including music, clothing and other sewing projects, jewelry from vintage watch parts, and baked goods (cricket-based and otherwise). Living on the farm has expanded the range of things I know how and now love to do.
Both Jim and I spend as much time as possible rock climbing. Find one of us in the real world and mention climbing and you will regret it unless you look forward to lengthy climbing conversations as much as we do.
Bucky – Ornery and in charge of the goats, who follow him around like pollen on a bee.
Willy – Skittery, but always sociable if you have treats. He also likes to boss Harley around.
Harley – The newest farm member, she has pushed Bucky and Willy’s shadows aside and taken her rightful place there.
The Bunnies – Cute and delicious.
And finally, The Crickets – These guys and gals have their own room in our house. They are the most numerous (we have about 40k of them) and transitory members of the farm, since they only live about 2 months, and as such, we don’t name them. But you’ll get to know them along with the rest of us over the course of this blog! Stay tuned…
